For over 25 years, Triangle’s UK Domestic B2B Express Parcels Distribution Survey has [...]

For over 25 years, Triangle’s UK Domestic B2B Express Parcels Distribution Survey has been the industry standard benchmarking survey for the UK express industry. In 2008, recognising the growing importance of the home delivery sector Triangle started a UK B2C Express Parcels Distribution Survey. In 2011 Triangle introduced a new UK Domestic Express Parcels Report which combines the results from the B2B and B2C sector surveys. 2012 will be Wave 2 representing a total sample size of around 900 parcels shippers.

Each sector survey focuses on regular B2B or B2C parcels shippers within the UK, tracking changes in service usage and customer perceptions of the leading carriers and their performance levels. For many senior executives in the express industry the study sets independent KPI’s for internal management initiatives and provides an invaluable competitor benchmark comparison which can work alongside in-house research data such as carriers’ own customer satisfaction surveys. Shippers too will find the survey an invaluable input to carrier selection and monitoring.

The surveys are based on fixed quotas for primary carrier ratings (i.e. carrier used most often), in order to guarantee robust results for each of the main carriers. A rating for the next most often used carrier is also captured, but no quota by carrier is set for them, i.e. these are random. Approximately 1,300 carrier ratings will be collected for this combined analysis, based on primary and secondary usage.

Triangle surveys are conducted via in-depth telephone interviews held in accordance with the Market Research Society Code of Conduct and supported by CATI software. The core sample is selected from a large database of known users of parcel distribution services. Triangle’s interviewers are experienced market researchers who have been carrying out studies with users of express parcels services for many years.

The main areas covered by the report include:

Market metrics (average volumes, weights)

Carrier usage (most often used, others used in last 12 months/last 3 years, lapsed usage)

Carrier awareness (other carriers not used, spontaneous & prompted)

Carrier selection criteria

Pricing changes

Carrier performance ratings for the top two carriers (most often used and second most often used in volume terms) on Overall level of service plus five core attributes such as Price and Customer service

Carrier descriptors for the top two carriers on eleven key statements

Likelihood of recommending the primary carrier used (generating a customer Loyalty Benchmark for the industry)

Total spend and percentage of total spend with main carrier (Share of wallet)

Timed service usage

Website usefulness

Sales & marketing recall/rating

Carrier Service Profiles

The survey results are reported in a management summary including analysis, graphical representation of the results and comparative charts. In addition, individual company summaries can be produced and supported by personalised presentations where desired.

Pricing

The combined UK Domestic Express Parcels Report (Wave 2), when purchased on its own, is £24,900 (+VAT).

For those carriers subscribing to both the individual sector reports (i.e. B2B Sector Report and the B2C Sector Report) the price is £5,000 (+VAT) for the combined UK Domestic Express Parcels Report.

For those carriers subscribing to just one sector report (either the B2B Sector Report or the B2C Sector Report) the price is £10,000 (+VAT) for the combined UK Domestic Express Parcels Report.

Building on the long established UK Domestic B2B Express Parcels Distribution Survey, which has been providing the express parcels sector with valuable carrier benchmarking information for over a quarter of a century, Triangle introduced in 2008 a UK Domestic B2C Express Parcels Distribution Survey which recognised the increasing importance of the home delivery sector. The 2012 Report is Wave 5 in this new series of express distribution surveys.

This specialist home distribution survey is based on approximately 450 in depth telephone interviews held with the decision maker for UK Domestic B2C deliveries of parcels ½ kg – 30 kg. All interviews are carried out to the standards laid down by the Market Research Society of Great Britain and supported by CATI software. The core sample is selected from a large database of known users of parcel distribution services. Triangle’s interviewers are experienced market researchers who have been involved with this study for many years.

Every year the survey content reflects developments in the market place and also allows for confidential questions from programme sponsors. In effect, Triangle’s UK Domestic B2C Express Parcels Distribution Survey provides bespoke research at multi-client prices.

Key features of the survey include:

Fixed quotas for primary carrier ratings, i.e. Used most often

Total survey size of approximately 450

Potential for subscribing carriers to boost their quota size

Minimum of 50 B2C parcels a month for respondent qualification

Potential to include 2 confidential questions at no additional cost

The survey is based on fixed quotas for primary carrier ratings (i.e. carrier used most often), in order to guarantee robust results for each of the main carriers. A rating for the next most often used carrier is also captured, but no quota by carrier is set for them, i.e. these are random.

The core questionnaire monitors strategic areas each year so as to ensure consistent trend data, however, new questions are sometimes added in order to measure market reactions to new developments. The main areas covered by the study include:

Market metrics (average volumes, weights)

Carrier usage (most often used, others used in last 12 months/last 3 years, lapsed usage)

Carrier awareness (other carriers not used, spontaneous & prompted)

Carrier selection criteria

Pricing changes

Carrier descriptors for the top two carriers on eleven key statements

Likelihood of recommending the primary carrier used (generating a customer Loyalty Benchmark for the industry)

Total spend and percentage of total spend with main carrier (Share of wallet)

Timed service usage

Website usefulness

Sales & marketing recall/rating

Carrier Service Profiles

The survey results are reported in a management summary including analysis, graphical representation of the results and comparative charts. In addition, individual company summaries can be produced and supported by personalised presentations where desired. Where significant trends can be identified, these too are analysed and reported for continuous subscribers.

Triangle’s Express surveys are designed to complement carriers’ own customer satisfaction surveys with the added unique advantage of independent benchmarking of key performance indicators against competitors. Shippers too will find the survey an invaluable input to carrier selection and monitoring.

For 2011 Triangle introduces a new UK Domestic Express Parcels Report which combines the results from the B2B and B2C sector surveys, representing a total sample size of around 870 parcels shippers.

Approximately 1,250 carrier ratings will be collected for this combined analysis, based on primary and secondary usage.

Building on the long established UK Domestic B2B Express Parcels Distribution Survey, which has been providing the express parcels sector with valuable carrier benchmarking information for over a quarter of a century and similar express parcel distribution surveys for France, Germany, Spain, Saudi Arabia, India, & UK Pallets & UK International over recent years, Triangle introduced in 2008 a UK Domestic B2C Express Parcels Distribution Survey which recognised the increasing importance of the home delivery sector. The 2011 Report is Wave 4 in this new series of express distribution surveys.

This specialist home distribution survey is based on approximately 420 in depth telephone interviews held with the decision maker for UK Domestic B2C deliveries of parcels ½ kg – 30 kg.

Total survey size of approximately 420

Potential for subscribing carriers to boost their quota size

Minimum of 50 B2C parcels a month for respondent qualification

Potential to include 2 confidential questions at no additional cost

2011 pricing maintained at 2008 levels, i.e. no increase for 4 years

Carrier performance ratings for the top two carriers (most often used and second most often used in volume terms) on Overall level of service plus five core attributes such as Price and Customer service

Carrier descriptors for the top two carriers on eleven key statements

Likelihood of recommending the primary carrier used (generating a customer Loyalty Benchmark for the industry)

Total spend and percentage of total spend with main carrier (Share of wallet)

Timed service usage

Website usefulness

Sales & marketing recall/rating

The survey results are reported in a management summary including analysis, graphical representation of the results and comparative charts. In addition, individual company summaries can be produced and supported by personalised presentations where desired. Where significant trends can be identified, these too are analysed and reported for continuous subscribers.

Triangle’s Express surveys are designed to complement carriers’ own customer satisfaction surveys with the added unique advantage of independent benchmarking of key performance indicators against competitors. Shippers too will find the survey an invaluable input to carrier selection and monitoring.

For over 25 years, Triangle’s UK Domestic B2B Express Survey has been the industry standard benchmarking survey for the express industry.

The survey focuses on regular B2B parcels shippers within the UK, tracking changes in service usage and customer perceptions of the leading carriers and their performance levels. For many senior executives in the express industry the study sets independent KPI’s for internal management initiatives and provides an invaluable competitor benchmark comparison which can work alongside in-house research data such as carriers’ own customer satisfaction surveys.

This specialist business distribution survey is based on around 430 in depth telephone interviews with decision makers for UK domestic B2B deliveries of parcels 2 kg – 30 kg, in accordance with the Market Research Society Code of Conduct and supported by CATI software. The core sample is selected from a large database of known users of parcel distribution services. Triangle’s interviewers are experienced market researchers who have been involved with this study for many years.

For around 25 years, Triangle’s UK Domestic Express Survey has been the industry standard benchmarking survey for the express industry.

The survey focuses on regular B2B parcels shippers within the UK, tracking changes in service usage and customer perceptions of the leading carriers and their performance levels. For many senior executives in the express industry the study sets independent KPI’s for internal management initiatives and provides an invaluable competitor benchmark comparison which can work alongside in-house research data such as carriers’ own customer satisfaction surveys for example.

Every year the survey content reflects developments in the market place and allows for confidential questions from programme sponsors. In effect, Triangle’s UK Domestic Express Survey provides bespoke research at multi-client prices.

Triangle incorporated a number of improvements for the survey in 2009 which will be continued for the 2010 survey. These are summarised below:

Fixed quotas for primary carrier ratings, i.e. Used most often (previously used at all, see details below)

Larger total survey size which in 2009 was 430 (previously 300)

Potential for subscribing carriers to boost their quota size

Shorter, more focussed questionnaire with a new “Loyalty” question (see below) and “Share of Wallet” question.

Minimum of 50 parcels a month for respondent qualification

Potential to include 2 confidential questions at no additional cost

2010 pricing maintained at 2008 levels, i.e. no increase for 3 years

The survey is based on fixed quotas for primary carrier ratings (i.e. carrier used most often), in order to guarantee robust results for each of the main carriers. A rating for the next most often used carrier is also captured, but no quota by carrier is set for them, i.e. these are random.

As in previous years the survey is conducted via in depth telephone interviews held in accordance with the Market Research Society Code of Conduct. The core sample is selected from a large data base of known users of parcel distribution services. Triangle’s interviewers are experienced market researchers who have been involved with this study for many years, supported by CATI software.

Triangle has adopted a slightly shorter questionnaire in order to create a more focussed and higher quality interview. However, all the core strategic areas are maintained so as to ensure consistent trend data.

Likelihood of recommending the primary carrier used (score 1-10 to develop a customer Loyalty Benchmark for the industry) and reasons for recommending

Total spend and percentage of total spend with main carrier (Share of wallet)

Intentions to change carriers

Timed service usage

Website usefulness

Sales & marketing recall/rating

The survey results are reported in a management summary including analysis, graphical representation of the results and comparative charts. In addition, individual company summaries can be produced and supported by personalised presentations where desired. Where significant trends can be identified, these too are analysed and reported for continuous subscribers.

Triangle Express surveys are designed to compliment carriers own customer satisfaction surveys with the added unique advantage of benchmarking key performance indicators against competitors. Shippers too will find the survey an invaluable input to carrier selection and monitoring.

Report Contents:
