June 2010 - Triangle has launched a new authoritative study of Hybrid Mail, looking at both its development to date and the future of this delivery concept.

The study is based on extensive research utilising Triangle’s unique databank, supplemented by interviews with customers and service providers and input from relevant industry experts. Filling an important gap in the market the report is a ‘must have’ report for those operative in the sector. It is very much a practical and working guide to the sector, with actionable information, rather than a theoretical, academic study and will provide the definitive guide for those within or considering entering the sector.

The study is sectionalised in two parts, a Strategic overview of the development and application of hybrid mail—past, present and future, and an authoritative guide to suppliers of hybrid mail technology and services.

The study will provide business critical information for:

All business users of mail services

Every national post

Other companies offering or planning to offer hybrid mail services

Industry suppliers of hardware or software

Regulators and trade associations

Industry analysts and consultants

The Hybrid Mail report is priced from £5,000 and can be purchased direct from Triangle on +44 1628 642910.

Triangle Management Services, the specialist services provider to the global mail and express industry, has today announced some significant changes to its industry leading UK Domestic B2B Express Parcels Distribution Survey.

The key changes to the benchmarking survey include a 30% increase in sample size, a shorter and more focussed questionnaire, which now include a new section on benchmarked carrier loyalty/recommendation factor and the ability for subscribers to boost their quota within the main survey. In addition Triangle has confirmed that the price of the survey will remain unchanged at 2008 levels.

The survey was first published in 1984 and has become the industry standard for the express sector. Its status reflects the way in which clients use the survey to identify benchmarks against which they can judge company performance and the success of new initiatives.

Express Director at Triangle, Robin Parr-Davies commented “we know and understand the value of the UK Domestic Express Survey to our clients. These changes have been made after consultation with the carrier industry and will, we know, provide an even more useful business tool for them in 2009”.

The survey is priced at £12,150 + VAT. Further details can be found at the Triangle website www.triangle.eu.com

The UK’s leading mail and express research consultancy Triangle Management Services has just published a major benchmarking study for the UK domestic home delivery market.

With the staggering growth in home shopping via the internet there is considerable interest in how e-retail goods purchased are subsequently handled and delivered to consumer’s home addresses. This survey will not only be of interest to carriers and shippers but also to fulfilment companies and other organisations interested in accessing this aspect of the e-commerce sector, such as IT suppliers for example.

The survey’s methodology was based on the long established (over 20 years) Triangle Domestic B2B Parcels Distribution Survey but with many questions focussed specifically on user’s experiences of parcel carriers performance in the fast growing B2C delivery sector. The survey was based on 300 interviews with shippers despatching 100+ parcels a month to home addresses in the weight range ½ kg to 30 kg requiring a delivery next day or within 2/3 days.

The 115-page report establishes user perceptions for a number of carrier ratings and descriptors both for the home delivery specialist operators and those largely B2B orientated express parcel carriers now extending their reach into the B2C sector. Although the survey specifically excluded Royal Mail’s packet deliveries, their Special Delivery Service was included.

Issues such as the offer of an alternative delivery location, the collection and notification of returns and the use of, and reasons for employing, specialist fulfilment houses are examples of specific issues relating to home deliveries that are addressed in the report. One of the principal features of this unique survey is the benchmarking of carriers by their users so that not only can the operators see their relative performances in easy to read benchmark charts but in addition shippers can utilise the information in sourcing or reviewing their service provider.

DHL Express received the highest spontaneous awareness rating followed closely by Parcelforce Worldwide and City Link, however in terms of usage there were 15 individual service providers named by the shippers, and benchmarked in the survey. “The results showed a wide variance in customer’s perception of the various home delivery carriers they have used which probably reflects a growing awareness of the rather more specific needs of the B2Cdelivery sector as compared to the more traditional B2B commercial activity” commented Robin Parr-Davies, Triangle’s Express Director. “It is clear that user’s needs are not always being met in this fast growing sector” he continued “the home delivery market is becoming recognised as an important growth sector, requiring particular services and attention by the operators and this report will be of interest to a wide spectrum of organisations with interests in the e-retail sector”.

Triangle Management Services Ltd, founded in 1984, is today the pre-eminent independent specialist management services company within the global mail, express and logistics sectors. Triangle offers the following services to clients: Recruitment, Market Research, Consultancy, Conferences and Mergers and Acquisitions – all of which focus primarily on the mail and express industry sectors.

Utilising its unique position in the express market, Triangle Management Services has published a new report, the Polish Express Parcel Carriers Digest.

This handy compendium of the Polish express industry is specifically aimed at buyers and suppliers to the industry, and provides an overview of the Polish express market. For each of the main Polish express carriers the Digest includes a concise summary of each operator’s history, marketing strategy, basic financial data, domestic and international services and a commentary on its overall customer specific IT solutions.

Robin Parr-Davies, Express Director at Triangle, commented: ‘We believe that the valuable information that Triangle acquires through its constant monitoring of this market will be of great interest to a wide audience. I am sure the report will be an invaluable tool for customers of and suppliers to this industry. It will also be of interest to the parcel carriers themselves, ensuring that they have the latest information about their competitors to hand. As the largest of the 2004 EU Accession states, Triangle has been monitoring the Polish express market with great interest and believes that, with the recent evident market growth in the sector, there are now significant opportunities available not only for the local Polish express operators but also for the main European networks and global integrators who have an interest in the Polish express market’.

The express and parcels market in India is growing rapidly and is increasingly attracting investment from the global express integrators such as DHL with its new Indian subsidiary Blue Dart Express, TNT with its purchase of road express company Speedage and FedEx's buy out of its global service partner Prakash Air Freight, Pafex. Even GeoPost is thought to be interested in acquiring a stake in local operator DTDC.

Many commentators forecast that the Indian express market is set to grow at more than 20% p.a. for the next few years which will put some strain on the thousands of small operators serving the local domestic sector, although 20 operators are estimated to account for 50% of the total market.

Against this background global express and mail market research and consultancy firm Triangle has introduced its popular express distribution survey to the Indian domestic and international express delivery market and has now published its first report entitled: ‘The Indian Express Distribution Survey 2007′.

Based on 1,230 face to face in depth interviews completed in March-April 2007, spread across the whole country, with shippers of both domestic and international consignments, the survey investigates the factors that differentiate carriers in the eyes of the shipper and presents the findings in the form of competitor carrier benchmark charts. Key distinguishing issues were examined such as customer care, problem resolution, the flow of information between carrier and customer, and the importance of a wide range of services, both domestic and international, including media recall and how various carriers’ sales personnel are viewed.

The report shows, for example, that for the carrier descriptors concerning loss and damage to parcels, users are seeking improvements from their service providers whilst when examining the perception of charges, local carriers generally appear to offer better prices than do the major integrators.

Carriers featured in the report include: Aramex, Blue Dart, DTDC, DHL, First Flight, Overnight Express, Pafex, TNT, Professional, Blaze flash, Vichare and Tracon.

Copies of the Indian Express Distribution Survey 2007 are available now from Triangle Management Services via its web site at Market Research or contact Express Director Robin Parr-Davies at Robin.parr.davies@triangle.eu.com or by phone on 00 44 (0)870 950 7900.

Triangle Management Services, the leading international mail and express research consultancy, is to extend its express survey expertise to embrace the fast growing Indian express market.

Triangle has extensive experience in surveying express, parcels and pallet markets, with benchmark reports covering the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Saudi Arabia all published in the last couple of years.

Triangle’s regular national express surveys explore the views of shippers using these services, and investigate those factors that differentiate and benchmark carriers from the shipper’s perspective. The surveys are unique in that the competitor benchmark facility is designed to run alongside carriers’ own customer satisfaction surveys to enhance, provide a high level check, and reinforce their own research.

In common with the other Triangle country surveys, this Indian project surveys shippers of both domestic and international consignments (the sample for India is 1,200 shippers), and examines the key factors which they use to distinguish between the various express carriers active in the Indian market, such as problem resolution, price changes, information exchange and the importance of offering a wide range of services.

Other sections of the report analyse the shippers’ usage, awareness and opinions of the most significant carriers, rating them across a range of criteria such as the quality of their transport service, marketing, sales and customer care effectiveness. The survey also looks at the selection criteria considered by shippers and any service improvements they would like to see.

The report, which will utilise clear graphs, diagrams and easy to read carrier benchmark tables, is expected to be published by June 2007. The report will be essential reading for both domestic and international express parcel carriers, including those currently operating in India and those looking to enter this market. Anyone interested in the benefits of subscribing to this first Indian Express benchmark survey is recommended to contact Triangle’s Express Director, Robin Parr-Davies as soon as possible, as the fieldwork is schedule to start in March 2007, at robin.parr.davies@triangle.eu.com.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – February 5, 2007 – FastShip, Inc. (www.fastshipatlantic.com), in partnership with industry consultants Triangle Management Services, has issued an open invitation to bid on cargo capacity on a planned new cargo service between the non-congested ports of Philadelphia, PA and Cherbourg, France. FastShip’s JetShip service will fill the untapped middle market in the shipping industry between air and sea freight, enabling door-to-door delivery time that is comparable to standard air freight at half the cost.

Under the tender process, interested bidders will have the opportunity to bid on 1.3 million tonnes of cargo space on three JetShip vessels via twice weekly trans-Atlantic sailings; service is scheduled to commence in 2010. FastShip will offer a high speed portgate-to-portgate shipping alternative with time-definite standards of delivery, enabling 6 to 7 day door-to-door service between mid-Europe and mid-United States, thus providing a unique alternative for high-value, time-sensitive goods.

”FastShip will fill the tremendous gap in terms of price, reliability, and transit times that exists between air and sea freight,” said Roland K. Bullard, II, President and CEO of FastShip, Inc. ”Currently, shippers’ choices are extremely limited – they can pay more than necessary for a service that is faster than needed, or pay less than they are prepared to spend for a less desirable service. FastShip will fill that untapped middle market for shippers.”

Successful respondents to the tender will not only ensure themselves access to space on FastShip’s Trans-Atlantic service, but will also be in an advantageous position for future route developments, including Trans-Pacific. The tender document is no longer available (August 2008).

The unique design of the JetShip provides a 10,000-ton load capacity with the capability of maintaining speeds of up to 40 knots even in severe sea states. Powered by marine versions of Rolls Royce Trent engines driving highly efficient waterjet propulsors, the JetShip is built for speed, stability, and time-definite performance, cutting crossing times by more than half.

For loading and unloading the ship integrates with terminals using a link-span and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), a technology that obviates the need for crane loading. This will bring the turn-round time down to as little as 6 hours compared to the current 24 hours. This new technology also makes it possible to integrate the JetShip’s cargo handling operations into a general-purpose marine terminal, thereby reducing capital costs, providing port flexibility and facilitating rapid rollout of JetShip technology into new trade routes.
