Debate has often focused on ways of encouraging and publicising best practice within the mail industry worldwide and from these debates arose the World Mail Awards that were launched in 2000 and presented at the 11th World Mail & Express conference held in Paris in May of that year. The awards were repeated in London in 2001 with six categories and with the introduction of new awards in 2002, the total number of awards available is now seven. The award categories for 2002 were:
Applications or nominations for each of the awards were made on-line at http://www.mailawards.com (Applications opened 1 January 2002 and closed 1 March 2002). Each year interested parties can nominate themselves or any other organisation that they feel worthy of an award. Any postal operator large or small, public or private, or any mail equipment or service supplier anywhere in the world who satisfies the award criteria is invited to apply. A panel of experts whose deliberations are independent of the organisers and sponsors judge each award. It is the responsibility of each award panel, under the chairmanship of a distinguished industry leader, to ensure the applications or nominations meet the criteria of the Award in question. These prestigious awards were presented at a gala dinner on 13 May 2002, at the Hilton Hotel, Apollolaan, Amsterdam. Remember - there can be no better recognition than that of your peers and customers.
