Effective Mailroom management, is outsourcing an option?
This is the title of a FREE pamphlet produced by Triangle Management
Services to help guide companies through the many issues that need to be
carefully looked at when considering outsourcing responsibility for the
operation of your mailroom.
It is not uncommon these days for companies to seek to focus on the
things that they should know best, the things that they are mainly in
business for, and try not to get distracted by all the other issues that
could, and frequently do, take up valuable management time, and which could
so easily get in the way of the core business activity. In the words of one
industrialist, companies must try to “stick to the knitting” which they know
best.
Outsourcing is not new, many of the support functions in businesses today
have found themselves subject to an outsourcing policy: IT, HR, Procurement,
Facilities Management and even sales and marketing functions, have all been
subject to outsourcing at one time or another. The mailroom is no exception,
indeed it may even have been one of the founder members of the “outsourcing
club”.
There are pitfalls however for the unwary. If not carried out carefully and
sensitively (one of the major impacts is on employees) then outsourcing can
so easily go wrong, and when that happens it can end up costing a great deal
more than it did with the added encumbrance of a long term contract around
the companies neck. That is why we at Triangle have compiled a short
