A study into the
feasibility of linking Heathrow Airport to the UK and European rail network for the
carriage of air cargo and transhipment opportunities. Involved field research in The
United States, Canada and Japan on behalf of the BAA into the market perception and
potential to develop London's Heathrow Airport as a transhipment gateway.
British
Airways Plc:
Global Air Cargo Market
Sizing. Involved global research into the likely air cargo market size to the year 2000,
trends and factors influencing growth, and market segmentation of growth.
Carousel:
Conducted strategic audit
of operations, including SWOTs analysis to facilitate an assessment of its market
position and future business development strategy.
CO-ACT:
Triangle is one of the
partners involved in a project of the 5th Framework within the European
Competitive and Sustainable Growth Programme called CO-ACT. CO-ACT's general
objectives are the development of concepts for fast cargo-trains at a
European level and the development of intermodal transhipment systems,
improving sustainable mobility.
This will result in:
An overview of the most promising innovative concepts for fast
rail-transport of air freight and other time critical cargo in the EU.
Insight in the most promising technologies for transport and transhipment.
Recommendations for the harmonisation of ULD's.
Practical experience - a pilot train between Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and
Fraport.
EC - Air Cargo by Road in
the EU:
Identifying and quantifying trucked air
cargo flows within the European Community. Particular emphasis was placed on the
implications for airport and road infrastructures, road safety issues, rate dumping and
the general implications for the future of air cargo within Europe. The study involved
input from all EC Member states, Customs authorities, AEA airlines and non-European
carriers.
European
parcels operator:
Study to assess the
joint-venture opportunities in Europe for leading UK international express operator. In
the first stages the study involved a strategic audit of the clients management and
operations and shortlisting of potential partners. Detailed analysis of the shortlisted
companies, including approaches and visits to the companies concerned were then made to
assess their potential fit, availability and recommend an implementation strategy.
European Postal Operator: Strategic Review
Triangle was commissioned to work with a leading European post to provide
input to a comprehensive strategic review.
The work involved developing a detailed overview of the commercial
activities of seven posts in Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific,
identifying their strategies in sectors such as addressed and unaddressed
mail, consumer parcels, international and electronic/digital services.
Triangle carried out a 'gap analysis', identifying areas of activity within
the seven posts that provided potential learning points for our client.
Triangle also highlighted opportunities for our client when reviewing its
commercial strategies in those business sectors.
As well as a comprehensive country by country report and strategic
overviews, Triangle's Director - Mail also made a presentation to the
client's board.
European
post office:
Partner search study to
identify, evaluate and recommend potential partners for the final delivery of the
clients international products. The scope of the search covered central and eastern
Europe and entailed undertaking field research in Austria, Czech Republic, Slovak
Republic, Hungary, Poland, Bulgaria and Romania.
Fedex:
Several marketing projects of a strategic
and confidential nature.
Global
freight forwarder:
An investigation into several eastern and
central European airfreight markets, on behalf of a leading global freight forwarder to
ascertain the availability and interest of organisations in commercial co-operation or
acquisition opportunities.
Major European
express
operator:
Bespoke study providing an overview of the
express market world-wide. The study entailed market sizing, competitive analysis of major
players and an assessment of new developments on a regional and country (in Europe) basis.
Major European
Parcel Carrier:
A study to investigate the changing patterns of import distribution,
especially in relation to European parcel, prompted by the major growth of
imports from China and other Asian sources. Interviews were held in the UK,
France, Germany and the Netherlands with the following:

Leading European Bank: Review of international services
for bulk transactional mail
Triangle was commissioned to work with a leading European Bank to provide
information on transactional mail services, for Eight European countries and
the United States.
The report covered the current and likely future status of postal market
liberalisation; the products and services of each national postal provider
that are particularly relevant for generators of bulk transactional mail; an
assessment of the degree of flexibility of each national post regarding the
provision of different pricing and product specifications for individual
customers and an overview of the availability of relevant services from
alternative operators.
Pitney Bowes:
Strategic marketing study
relating to the development of a service offering focused on the shipping
needs of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises.
P&O Containers:
Several projects including, product
development, yield improvement and long term strategy.
Qantas Airlines:
Mapping world air cargo trends as a first
step towards producing a marketing strategy geared towards developing new products. As an
initial result this led to the launch of a retail express product - the first airline in
the world to do so.
United Kingdom Post Office:
Amongst several assignments developed a
programme focused on the purchasing of air freight space by the Post Office. This led to a
world first for a Post Office to break away from UPU (Universal Postal Union) agreed rates
and methods. In addition we have carried out a number of projects relating to market
opportunities and perceptions.
United States
Postal Service:
Triangle was instrumental in assessing and evaluating potential European
partners for the USPS who were looking to source inbound international express
parcels.
Universal Postal Union:
Managing the Contract process related to
the location and appointment of EMS (Express Mail Service) delivery agents in five
countries on behalf of the UPU's 175 members. The process also involved the provision of
expert advice in making the final selection and implementing the follow-up programme.

Projects:
Projects in the commercial vehicle rental,
leasing and sales markets for Ryder plc, Central Trailer Rental (CTR) and the XTRA
Corporation. Project in the air cargo business for TIP/GE. Further details have to remain
