Overview

A new order: Managing post recession

The global recession has affected everyone in the mail and express business. Volumes are down; the pressure to reduce costs is unrelenting; and customers are no less demanding.

There are definite indications that in the Americas region the worst is over and that the green shoots of recovery are starting to show as we move into a post recession environment.

Recession is over; but what does the future hold?

But life is unlikely to return to what it was in 2007. As a result of changed behaviours and perspectives a new world order is emerging which we have to address and embrace. Take two examples specific to the mail and express industry:

  • The relatively gentle curve of the graph charting the long term decline in physical mail (particularly transactional items) in the face of quicker and cheaper electronic alternatives suddenly gets steeper as companies have responded to a greater urgency to cut costs. Once lost, that volume is gone forever in its traditional form. But are there ways in which postal companies can still gain commercial benefit?
  • In the recession shippers questioned even more than before the need to use relatively more expensive next day services when slower alternatives are seen as just as reliable and cheaper. What will it take to reverse the trend?

Everyone has been affected by this new environment—operators, vendors, suppliers, shippers, receivers, regulators, and associated industry experts.

The only annual event dealing with international & national post & parcel matters for nearly one billion people in the Americas

These are the issues the 2010 Conference addressed. World Mail & Express Americas has become the only annual event dealing with International & National post & parcel matters for the nearly 1 billion people in the Americas region, and provides the only real forum to bring all the key regional stakeholders together.

The perfect medium for senior executives to debate the key issues facing the region

CEOs and other industry leaders have been responding to the changed world – the conference presented an opportunity to benefit from global, regional and national perspectives. Information regarding next year’s event will be confirmed in due course and will be announced first here. To ensure that you are kept up to date please subscribe to our newsletter now.
