World Retail Networks Seminar 2009
Date: 6 May 2009 | Location: Hilton Munich Park Hotel, Munich, Germany
2009 saw the third annual edition of the World Retail Networks Seminar. Designed to give the retail sector a platform and a forum, the Seminar has become a unique event in the postal industry calendar, allowing those executives addressing the challenges of redesigning their networks to meet the business challenges faced today.
Overview
Increasingly Post Office networks are undertaking ambitious transformation programmes in order to compete in ever increasing competitive home markets. There is now a pressing need to reach the Post Office customer through multiple channels and for senior executives to innovate to help grow their market share and present a uniform and seamless shopping experience and branding across all channels to ensure the customer does not go elsewhere.
This conference brought together the issues, challenges and success stories from all sides of the global Post Office retail industry and focused on adding value to the customer experience. Delegates heard from leading industry experts willing to share their experiences and expertise.
The conference provided insight into the latest thoughts and developments within the global Post Office sector and gave delegates the opportunity to network with peers and suppliers to the industry.
This seminar attracted an audience of senior directors and executives from Postal Retail Networks throughout Europe and beyond – these included:
- Chairmen & Chief Executives
- Managing Directors
- Retail Networks Directors

Networking
At the end of the one-day seminar, the exhibition area was opened to provide a chance for more detailed discussion with postal network colleagues and to see some further illustration of the incentives featured during the day.
That evening, at the same venue, the 10th World Mail Awards Gala Dinner took place. Delegates to the World Retail Networks Seminar could attend this event and the World Mail & Express Europe Conference, which commenced the following day.
World Mail & Express Europe is recognised as the foremost networking conference in the global calendar. During the event there was a number of social activities, including dinners, a Bavarian themed evening (hosted by DHL Global Mail) and a cocktail party, designed to help delegates renew acquaintances, talk with peers and make new introductions.
In addition, Speed Networking (sponsored by Belgian Post International) created a structured and fun environment in which delegates could talk to people who they may not normally come into contact with and facilitates a quick decision on whether there is a mutual interest, without the need for polite or unnecessarily long conversations.
Exhibition
Alongside the seminars and conference the exhibition display area featured a variety of leading organisations, operators and industry suppliers, ready to share and discuss their latest innovations. All refreshments and meals were served in this area, enabling delegates and exhibitors to mingle and discuss business at will.
