Summary

This new report provides an in-depth survey of some 300 large customers of express parcel services in Spain. The decision to utilise particular operators has been researched, as have customers’ views and perceptions of the service offered including quality of service, customer service, range of services and prices they are being charged.

In addition, for those operators with pan-European parcels networks, this survey allows them to compare the performances of their subsidiaries and/or partners in Spain with the UK, France and Germany on a common basis.

  • Range of services by type and geographical coverage

  • European service availability and its importance in the choice of network

  • Usage and perception of carriers internet facilities

  • Perceptions of the quality of service received including ratings for:

    • Price
    • Range of services/One-stop-shop solutions
    • Provision of information
    • Customer service
  • Description of carriers characteristics in terms of quality of service, customer service and image including:
    • On-time collection and delivery
    • Rarely damages parcels
    • Pro-activity in terms of identification and resolution of problems
    • Flexibility and seen to care
    • Service improvements and reasons for changing carriers.

The results of the customers’ survey are presented in a detailed report including statistical analysis, graphical representation, comparative benchmark charts and in-depth commentaries. In future years a trend analysis will be provided to regular/loyal customers for those years of uninterrupted subscription.

This survey will provide the Spanish express carriers with much needed market feedback from customers on a competitive benchmark basis and will assist the service providers in the identification of their perceived strengths and weaknesses.

Methodology

The Spanish Domestic Express Parcels Distribution Survey 2005 builds on the experience gained through the long established (over 15 years) Triangle UK Parcels Distribution Survey, which is seen as the “benchmark” for the industry in the UK and follows the 2003 launch of the French Express & Messagerie Customer Survey and the publication in 2004 of the German Express and Parcel Customer Survey.

The survey benchmarks the carriers operating primarily on the B-to-B deliveries of standardised parcels between 2kg and 31.5kg and of express-shipments with guaranteed, time definite services.

Each of the key operators in the Spanish express field is included in the survey including for example Azkar, Chronoexpres, DHL/Giupuzcoana, FedEx, GeoPost/Seur, MRW and UPS.
