Our experience has shown that amongst the key attributes that buyers look for in a potential acquisition are:

• Sufficient size or sufficient market sector presence to be attractive to a major player (e.g. turnover greater than $15m or at least 5% of a market segment)
• Product lines, niche markets, or value added services that make the business distinct.
• Long term customer relationships.
• Capable ‘second tier’ management who can run the business after a change of ownership.
• Good information, IT and administrative systems which can be integrated with the structure of the new owner.
• Absence of ‘problems’ such as claims, onerous property leases environmental issues, or labour disputes.
• A track record of good margins, profitability and growth.
