UK Mail Summit - The Kensington Hilton, London, 12 - 13 March 2002

DAY ONE - DOMESTIC DAY Making it happen for the customer

The UK mail market is currently undergoing major changes. Competition is gradually appearing at a time when the Royal Mail appears to be failing to provide customers with the services which they require. At the same time the mail business itself may be under threat from substitutes such as email, the Internet and the phone.

The UK Mail Summit 2002 is the opportunity for mailers to learn about the latest changes in the mail market and have their say about its future development.

Major users of mail services have real questions that need real answers.

  • What innovative services will the newly licensed operators be providing and how will Royal Mail react to competition?

  • Should they continue to invest in mail as a communication medium and, if so, whom should they use for delivery?

  • Will it be worthwhile for mailers to restructure their processes in order to be able to take advantage of the new alternatives?

  • Should they be expanding their mailing facilities or thinking about outsourcing to specialist providers?

The changing nature of regulation is at the heart of the opportunities being created in the postal market. The UK Mail Summit will provide mailers with straightforward, practical information about the effects now and in the future of deregulation, avoiding the academic complexities of regulatory economics and legislation.

DAY 2 - THE INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE Understanding the new opportunities

The march of the global economy and the increase in the numbers of expatriates working and living outside of their normal countries of residence is multiplying the volumes of B2B, B2C and C2C international letters and packages moving into and out of UK, already one of the largest mail markets in the world.

The following topics are of great concern to, and effect upon, international mailers based in UK:

  • Should you use the UK Post Office, an overseas Post Office direct, or a consolidator?

  • Do consolidators have a future?

  • Will destination country postal administrations attempt, in the future, to refuse acceptance of mails from Post Offices operating outside of their own national territories?

  • How do you get the best deal in terms of both cost and quality of service?

  • Does "post" have a future, or will it be merged into other products and services?

  • Is "post" the best solution for international delivery of e-commerce purchases?

  • Can subscription mailings cope with the uncertainties of unexpected tariff increases and poor "returns" procedures?

  • What is the mail logistics chain? Is the "one stop shop" the way to go?

Postal regulatory standards vary throughout the world, and the pace of liberalisation and competition is not consistent. Choosing the right carrier is now even more critical for the survival and development of your business. This summit will allow you to understand the complexities of the market place, to make more informed decisions about the products and to meet the service providers available to support your business needs.
