UK Express and Parcels Industry Salary Survey -

‘Great differences recorded between employment packages in new 2001 Parcels Industry Salary Survey’

Following the success of a similar study performed in 1996, Triangle has conducted another salary survey looking at operational and sales staff within the UK express and parcels industry. The survey draws on Triangle’s considerable expertise in the fields of research and recruitment to provide an essential benchmarking tool for those with an interest in levels of remuneration in this sector.

Results of the survey, which is based on an in-depth study of the remuneration packages of nine of the UK’s leading express parcel carriers, are now available at a cost of £2,500.

The study offers comparisons of salary, overtime, benefits and allowances paid to operational and sales staff. The results show, for instance that whilst remuneration packages paid to traffic clerks vary little, salaries on offer to sales employees can differ by almost 50% of the industry average.

On the findings of the survey, Triangle’s Head of Recruitment, Nichola Jones states, “Some companies are clearly underpaying in some positions whilst overpaying in others. Knowledge of this type of information could significantly assist in reducing staff turnover.”

The salary survey includes the following information for all levels of operational and sales staff.

  • Basic salary
  • Overtime rates (weekday, weekends, bank holidays etc)
  • Holiday entitlement
  • Hours per week
  • Profit related pay or bonuses and commissions
  • Additional allowances, e.g. London shift, on call
  • Benefits e.g. company car
  • Other information relating to: allowances (e.g. uniforms), healthcare, mobile phone etc.
Methodology of the Survey

Information has been obtained from each participating carrier and ‘like for like’ comparisons made between positions.

A high, average and low for the industry in each job category has been provided for the above-mentioned aspects of each level of job giving a very detailed picture of the remuneration structure of the express industry.

Participants in the UK Express and Parcels Industry Salary Survey 2001 were ANC, DHL, Lynx, Nightspeed, Nightfreight, Parceline, Parcelforce, TNT and Tuffnells.
