Triangle introduces a Pallet Network Users Survey

In response to customers’ requests, Triangle Management Services has this year introduced a customer satisfaction survey for the newly emerging UK pallet distribution market following the successful format of the long established UK Domestic Parcels Distribution Survey.

Robin Parr-Davies, Triangle’s Head of Research and Consultancy, comments: “The rapid growth of the pallet network distribution market over the last few years has been remarkable and with most operators expecting a further boost as a result of the Working Time Directive, current growth rates of 35% - 40% per annum are expected to continue for a while yet”.

As well as those established parcels carriers that also have an interest in palletised shipments, there are now around 8 major specialised pallet networks operating in the UK market with at least one additional new starter expected this year. Although networks do vary in structure, most seem to involve a licensee model with a degree of licensee involvement in hub operations and/or licensor ownership.

The new Triangle Survey of UK Pallet Users that is being published this summer will address issues of customer satisfaction, awareness and service options for example. The report includes a detailed survey of some 300 + companies that despatch palletised shipments in the range of 1 to 6 pallets per consignment. It solicits their views about the service they receive, records network brand awareness and addresses pricing issues in a way that facilitates individual networks to benchmark themselves against their competitors.

Mr Parr-Davies, who oversaw marketing for a number of express parcels carriers in the early years of that sector's developments, concludes: “it is important for those networks that want to ensure their survival beyond this initial dramatic growth period, that they invest today to underscore their success in the future. As well as investing in such things as hub developments and IT facilities for example, networks also need to start to think about market positioning and brand awareness issues now.”

Notes to editor:

The UK Pallet Users Distribution Survey is based on the long established UK Domestic Parcels Distribution Survey. It will survey 300 + customers using a structured questionnaire that will take around 30 minutes to complete. The report will be published to subscribers during July and costs £11,000 + VAT.
