Brussels buzzes with the World Mail and Express

The World Mail and Express Conference and Exhibition in Brussels last week brought the world of post and parcels to the centre of Europe. Top-level delegates from more than 40 countries gathered at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers to discuss events of the past year, challenges currently faced (particularly those offered by the new, enlarged, Europe) and industry-leaders’ expectations for the future.

Experienced keynote speakers such as Jean-Paul Bailly, Chairman and CEO of La Poste, Charles Prescott, Chairman of the UPU Consultative Committee, and Helge Israelsen, Chief Executive of Post Danmark, grabbed the attention of the several hundred delegates with their views on the range of topics scheduled. Feedback from delegates indicated that sessions which particularly struck a chord included those on innovations taking place in the new markets of Eastern Europe, current rapid growth in the Business-to-Consumer area and the challenges posed to the international mail and express industry by increasing regulation.

This was the 13th European event of this series and, as with the previous dozen, the opportunities to network highlighted the importance of the World Mail and Express conferences. While friendships were made and revived, key players and decision-makers met to swap ideas and suggestions, and some sizeable deals were discussed and clinched. The big story going around Brussels airport as the delegates left late on Friday was of a multi-million pound technology deal agreed at the exhibition that runs alongside the Conference earlier that day.

The 2006 World Mail and Express European event, the premier international forum for senior postal and express executives, will take place at the Sofitel Rive Gauche Hotel in Paris on 11-12 May next year. Following the success of this year’s event, organisers Triangle Management Services report that places for Paris in the springtime are already being snapped up. Sponsorship and exhibition opportunities are being optioned quickly, and interested parties are invited to contact the sales team for further details on +44 (0) 870 950 7900 or email to NigelA@triangle.eu.com.
