World-class technology companies to meet leading postal authorities planning future infrastructure

Technology is now fundamental to all of our lives and particularly the way we communicate. There can be few other industries, where the significance is so key, than for the Postal industry. Surprisingly, despite employing more than 5 million people and accounting for an average of 2% of GDP as part of the national and global communications infrastructure, most postal authorities have not historically invested heavily in technology.

However, with the advent of privatisation and market liberalisation, postal operators are being forced to respond to the threats and opportunities presented by technology. And it impacts all aspects from the customer right through to the operation and delivery of the services. The technology revolution is beginning to take hold.

Triangle Management Services and Saudi Post are together taking the initiative to unite the world’s leading postal authorities and top technology organisations in a meeting of minds and understanding. The world’s first global summit, focused on next generation postal technology, will be taking place in November this year, in Saudi Arabia.

Neil Jackson, Chief Executive of Triangle, stated, "PosTech 2007 is the first global conference focusing on the challenges and opportunities presented by technology for the coming years. This is an opportunity to understand the key challenges for the Postal Industry with some of the sectors thought leaders, key suppliers, legislators and postal operators."

Mr Jackson added "This will be quite unlike 'other' postal technology gatherings, because we will be personally inviting two top executives from each of the world's Posts to attend free of charge and to meet a number of high ranking representatives from world-class technology organisations such as Microsoft, Oracle, Dell and Hewlett Packard. This kind of opportunity to understand and share best practice will be certainly be unique and quite possibly one of the largest commercial gatherings of senior global postal executives."

The Summit is host sponsored by Saudi Post, has Patronage from King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and will be opened by Crown Prince Sultan at the Hilton Hotel in Jeddah on 14-15 November 2007.

PosTech 2007 will have two separate elements. One will deal with global postal technology and the other with specific technology to the Arab League of Nations. There will be a mix of plenary sessions coupled with discrete workshops all promoting a technology-based infrastructure for Posts. Topics include: Semantic Mail, Customer connection, Addressing & sorting in the future, E-commerce – a vendor perspective, the future of Direct Mail, E-billing & E-payment, Locational awareness and Financial services. There will also be a separate CEO Forum to better understand how technology can become a positive driver for the industry.

Among the speakers already confirmed are John Simpson - BBC Reporter, Mike Moore – ex Prime Minister of New Zealand, Michio Kaku – International Physicist and futurist, Anwar Ibrahim - former Deputy Prime Minister Malaysia and Development Director World Bank and IMF, Ulf Dahlsten - Director for Emerging Technologies and Infrastructures European Commission, Edouard Dayan - Director General UPU, Sergio Giacoletto - President Oracle EMEA. The Summit speakers programme is still currently being finalised, anyone interested in taking part should contact Triangle at john.modd@triangle.eu.com

Alongside the main conference will be an exhibition featuring key international suppliers showcasing their latest products, technologies and services. Organisations interested in taking part should contact Triangle Sales Director Nigel Ashton at nigel.ashton@triangle.eu.com
